This summer, even more than those before, Love Begins Here missionaries will have the opportunity to encounter what was at the heart of St. Teresa of Calcutta's life and mission.

On September 10, 1946, while on a train ride away from Calcutta, Sr. Teresa encountered the Lord in prayer. From that day forward, through prayer, Sr. Teresa came to understand more deeply what was meant by two words spoken by Jesus on the cross: I THIRST.

After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I thirst.” - John 19:2

It was revealed to Sr. Teresa that His thirst was not for something to drink, but for us and our love. This thirst, this longing Jesus has for the world is at the heart of our lives. As St. Teresa expressed, Jesus "has a deep and personal longing to have you for Himself. Let Him do it."

God thirsts that we may thirst for him. - CCC 2560

This coming summer, we are ready to help our missionaries encounter this longing and let themselves be loved, most especially through investing in prayer and conversation with Him who loves us most.

He longs for you. He thirsts for you... Only the thirst of Jesus, feeling it, hearing it, answering it with all your heart will keep your love alive. The closer you come to Jesus the better you will know His thirst. - St. Teresa of Calcutta
